Neurofeedback for Kids and Teens

Neurofeedback for Kids & Teens

As parents who have seen firsthand how neurofeedback transforms children’s focus, confidence, and resilience, we are passionate about making this incredible technology accessible to all families.

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is like a brain workout—helping the brain function more efficiently, just like exercise strengthens muscles. Kids simply sit back and relax while their brains naturally learn to self-regulate, improving focus, emotional balance, and sleep without any effort.

At Brain Spa’s Kids Club, we use NeurOptimal® neurofeedback, a state-of-the-art, non-invasive system that acts like a mirror for the brain, showing it real-time information and allowing it to self-correct.

How Can Neurofeedback Help Kids?

Sharper Focus & Attention – Helps kids stay engaged in school and activities
Calmer Emotions – Reduces stress, worries, and emotional outbursts
Better Sleep – Makes falling and staying asleep easier
More Confidence – Boosts self-esteem in academics, sports, and social settings
Smoother Transitions – Helps with flexibility and adaptability in daily life

Since neurofeedback is cumulative, benefits build over time. Many families notice improvements within the first few sessions, and deeper, long-lasting changes come with continued training.

Kids Club Expectations

To ensure a peaceful and positive experience, we ask that:

✅ Kids remain with their parents at all times & use quiet voices
✅ Kids sit calmly for 35 minutes in a recliner
✅ Kids may watch a provided movie, listen to the neurofeedback music, read, or do homework during the session

Not sure if your child can sit through a session? Book the private room for the first visit! Parents can also book a session at the same time for a shared wellness experience.

Flexible Options for Families

✨ Have multiple kids or want the whole family to train? Ask about our at-home rental options!

✨ Do you want to discuss the neurofeedback process and expectations for your child? Book the private room with consultation for the initial visit. Community room appointments do not include any consultation time.

Frequently Asked Questions About Neurofeedback for Children

What ages can do neurofeedback?
We see all ages and all brains.

Does my child need a diagnosis to do brain training?
No!  All brains benefit from NeurOptimal Neurofeedback.  No diagnosis is necessary.  The neurofeedback is dynamically generated from your brain’s activity, there is no “push” or forced direction that requires a diagnosis or QEEG brain mapping to set levels.  It is not targeting any specific symptom but instead optimizing the overall brain function.

Are there any side effects from the Neurofeedback?
Feeling calm.  Sleeping better.  Feeling relaxed.  Increased attention/focus.  These are the side effects we hear most often!  There are no known unwanted side effects because we are not pushing your brain to do anything it doesn’t want to do.

How many sessions will my child need?
Every brain is different, so we can’t know exactly, but we have a lot of data to go on with to make some generalizations (over 400 million hours of NeurOptimal sessions to go on!)  Many people notice some nice benefits pretty quickly and, with 10-12 sessions, are feeling a shift.  To make long-lasting changes, 20-30 sessions can be needed.  It is a learning process, and once learned is not unlearned, so as the sessions accumulate, they are yours and never wasted.

My child doesn’t sit still very well, can they do neurofeedback?
The child doesn’t have to sit perfectly still for a session.  The amp and sensors can clip on their clothing, allowing some movement.

In-office we have lots of fidgets, puzzles, Duplos, and books for entertainment. The child can play a game on a tablet or device as long as the sound is down and they are listening to the music from the NeurOptimal system.

The NeurOptimal Neurofeedback tablets can also play a movie for the session. In this case, the movie’s soundtrack carries the feedback so they are getting the neurofeedback while watching 33 minutes of a movie. This can be a great motivator for a child who otherwise might not like the idea (though I more often find kids LOVE brain training!)

Can I drop my kid off for their neurofeedback session?
That depends on your kid!  Some older kids (over 10) and teenagers who can sit quietly and follow our instructions are welcome to be dropped off.  We give that approval after we’ve met them and they have tried a couple of sessions.

Can I do neurofeedback with my child?
Yes, please!  Children co-regulate to their parents, so when the parent is calm and regulated, we often see issues with the child melt away. With both, or all, of your training, you will expedite the regulation process for the whole family! (another reason why we love the neurofeedback rentals that you can all do at home)
