Neurofeedback for Kids and Teens
A Calm Nervous System Changes Everything
Big feelings. Trouble focusing. Bedtime battles. A dysregulated nervous system shows up everywhere in a kid’s day, and in yours too.
NeurOptimal® neurofeedback gives your child’s brain the information it needs to settle itself down. No effort required. No diagnosis required. Just 33 minutes of listening to music while sensors read and reflect brain activity back in real time.
Parents notice the shift as much as kids do.

What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is like a workout for the brain. It helps the brain become more efficient, balanced, and adaptable.
We use NeurOptimal®, a non-invasive system that gives your brain real-time feedback using music and sensors. Kids don’t have to concentrate or “do” anything. The brain does the work naturally, just by listening.
Sessions are safe, effortless, and feel like a relaxing mental reset.
Since neurofeedback is cumulative, benefits build over time. Many families notice improvements within the first few sessions, and deeper, long-lasting changes come with continued training.
What to Expect
✔️ Each session is 33 minutes, plus time for sensor setup and clean-up (plan for ~50 minutes total)
✔️ Kids must be able to sit relatively calmly and quietly during the session, but perfect stillness is not required
✔️ They can watch a movie, read, listen to music, or do a quiet activity during the session
✔️ A parent must stay in the room unless the child is approved for drop-off

Frequently Asked Questions About Neurofeedback for Children
We typically start kids at age 5, though we've worked with plenty of younger clients too. Neurofeedback is safe for all ages.
No! All brains benefit from NeurOptimal Neurofeedback. No diagnosis is necessary. The neurofeedback is dynamically generated from your brain's activity, there is no "push" or forced direction that requires a diagnosis or QEEG brain mapping to set levels. It is not targeting any specific symptom but instead optimizing the overall brain function.
No known negative side effects. We're not pushing your brain to do anything it doesn't want to do. What we hear most often instead is kids feeling calm, sleeping better, and feeling more relaxed and focused.
Every brain is different, so we can't know exactly, but we have a lot of data to go on with to make some generalizations (over 400 million hours of NeurOptimal sessions to go on!) Many people notice some nice benefits pretty quickly and, with 10-12 sessions, are feeling a shift. To make long-lasting changes, 20-30 sessions can be needed. It is a learning process, and once learned is not unlearned, so as the sessions accumulate, they are yours and never wasted.
The child doesn't have to sit perfectly still for a session. The amp and sensors can clip on their clothing, allowing some movement. In-office we have lots of fidgets, puzzles, Duplos, and books for entertainment. The child can play a game on a tablet or device as long as the sound is down and they are listening to the music from the NeurOptimal system. The NeurOptimal Neurofeedback tablets can also play a movie for the session. In this case, the movie's soundtrack carries the feedback so they are getting the neurofeedback while watching 33 minutes of a movie. This can be a great motivator for a child who otherwise might not like the idea, though we more often find kids LOVE brain training!
That depends on your kid! Some older kids (over 10) and teenagers who can sit quietly and follow our instructions are welcome to be dropped off. We give that approval after we've met them and they have tried a couple of sessions.
Yes, please! Children co-regulate to their parents, so when the parent is calm and regulated, we often see issues with the child melt away. With both, or all, of your training, you will expedite the regulation process for the whole family! (Another reason why we love the neurofeedback rentals that you can all do at home)
Neurofeedback isn't typically covered directly by insurance, but it often qualifies for HSA/FSA funds. We are set up to charge your HSA/FSA debit card.
We don't diagnose or treat any specific condition. What we do is train the brain toward better regulation, and many families whose kids have an ADHD or anxiety diagnosis tell us they've noticed real improvements in focus and emotional control. This is brain training, not a treatment for any diagnosis.
Join the Kids Club!
Kid’s club fine print: Rewards cards are non-transferrable. Card must be present at time of neurofeedback session to receive a sticker. The card is valid for 6 months from the start date. We consider a “kid” to be under the age of 18 (sorry, grown-ups!). The reward is a gift card to Mr. Dewie’s Cashew Creamery for a single scoop of ice cream on a cone.
